Islamabad—Minister for Health Sherry Rehman told
the Senate that the Ministry has launched a 20
billion rupee programme for five years to
prevent maternal, newborn and children death.
Replying to a question about steps being taken
to provide free medical treatment to the poor
she said an immunization programme against seven
deadly diseases is being run at an annual cost
of 1.6 billion rupees besides a five billion
rupee programme of Lady Health Workers to
provide healthcare services to the people at
their door-steps.
Islamabad—Diarrhea is the second leading cause
of death worldwide in children under the age of
5 years. Of this, rotavirus diarrhea is the
leading cause of infant mortality.
Professor Sajid Maqbool, commented here that
around 4.36 million Pakistani children under the
age of 5 fall victim to a number of causes
including diarrhea, malaria, respiratory
diseases and measles, among others, every year.
Of these, diarrheal disease remains the second
most common cause of death among children under
the age of 5 years.
Rawalpindi—Civil aviation authority has embarked
upon a journey to acquire International
Standards of Integrated Management System.
During a phased programme, CAA intends to
certify all its Airports and locations against
these standards which include ISO-9001: 2000
(Quality Management System), ISO 14001: 2004
(Environmental Management System), and OHSAS
18001: 2007 (Occupational Health and Safety
Management System) standards.
Islamabad—Federal Minister for Information
Technology & Telecom Mr. Qamar Zaman Kaira has
said that his Ministry is determined to take all
stake holders along to meet the challenges faced
by the Telecom sector in the country. The
Minister said this while chairing a meeting
during his visit to PTA Headquarters in
Islamabad today. Chairman PTA, Major General (Retd)
Shahzada Alam Malik briefed the Minister about
the functions of PTA, regulatory initiatives and
performance of the telecom sector.
Islamabad—A three-member bench of the Supreme
Court Wednesday said that cabin crew could not
be dismissed on the basis of over- weight if the
member of the crew was found fit in annual
medical examination.The bench headed by Justice
Muhammad Nawaz Abbasi disposed of the petition
of 73 cabin crew members and said this decision
would not be applicable on crew members who
would be more than age of 50 years.
