ERRA, SERRA engage in rehab of quake victims

Muzaffarabad—The Deputy Chairman ERRA Lt. General Nadeem Ahmed has said that hundreds of departmental officials of ERRA and SERRA are rigorously engaged in reconstruction work and rehabilitation of 350,000 quake hit people of Azad Kashmir. He said this while addressing a farewell ceremony which was held jointly by ERRA and SERRA officials in his honor here on Wednesday. He said that reconstruction work was being done according to building code in quake ravaged areas and the roads, hospitals and educational institutions were being reconstructed in accordance with future needs and keeping in view the future dangers.

Senior citizens demand closure of illegal schools, hostels

Peshawar— The senior citizens of Hayatabad have urged the Provincial government to seal all illegal schools, guest houses, hostels, clinics and other commercial centers in the area as they were constant irritants for the residents. In an exclusive interview with APP, Chairman “Hayatabad Friends Welfare Society”, a private association of the senior citizens of the area, Malik Khana Gul said that it was the most appropriate time to take action against the private schools and hostels operating in the township illegally due to summer vacations adding that the examinations were over and students would not be affected.

UAE delegation visits centres for former camel jockeys

Lahore— A 19-member delegation comprising senior officials of the UAE Government and UNICEF led by Brigadier Nasser Aloadi Yahya Al-Minhali visited Multan and nearby communities to inspect centers set up to provide support for children who were formerly camel jockeys. The delegation is in Pakistan on a three-day tour. The former camel jockeys were repatriated in accordance with the historic agreement signed last year between the UAE and UNICEF. The UAE also negotiated agreements with Pakistan and other source countries to provide ongoing support and social services to the former camel jockeys. The support centers have been set up by UAE Government and UNICEF.

AJK plan to give modern look to the state-run hospitals

Mirpur—AJK government has kicked off an integrated plan to benefit the common man with quick and quality medical facilities close to their door steps through the public sector hospitals, RHCs and BHus throughout Azad Jammu Kashmir including in remote and far flung areas, official sources said. The broad-based health care development plan involved furnishing of all public-sector district and tehsil headquarter hospitals with latest equipments and instruments and medicines harmonious to the need of the modern age, the sources told APP here Wednesday.

Housing scheme for flood affectees launched

Larkana— The Marie Adelaide Leprosy Centre (MALC) in coordination with Caritas Austria, an NGO, has launched a scheme for construction of 100 houses in flood-hit areas of Kambar-Shahdadkot. Village Kehar Khan Magsi near Patooja Shakh which was completely destroyed during last year’s floods had been chosen for the construction of first house. The construction work has begun and 20 houses will be constructed in the village in three months’ time, the medical coordinator of the centre, Dr Farooque-ur-Rehman Soomro, told APP, here on Wednesday.
