tour
Raja Zahid
Islamabad—Almost 51 students from University of Agriculture
Faisalabad on Tuesday paid a visit to Pakistan Agricultural Research
Council (PARC) in connection with University research study tour
program.
Dr. Munir Ahmed, Member, Social Sciences Division (SSD), said that
PARC conducts research, especially of a basic and long term nature
in areas of national importance, which are either neglected or
inadequately covered, or are beyond the resources of the provincial
institutions.
He told the students, PARC is the apex agricultural research
organization at the national level. Its main objective is to
strengthen Pakistan’s agricultural research system, comprising the
federal and provincial components.
PARC is the only organization in the country with a mandate to
coordinate agricultural research, being carried out in the
provincial as well as federal institutions.
Speaking on Social Sciences Mandated activities, he informed the
students that SSD undertake research on different priority issues
of national and regional importance in the disciplines of
agricultural social sciences; provide research feed-back to the
biological scientists working on different crops and livestock;
develop and strengthen linkages with research and extension for
technology transfer; extend consultancy/advisory services to the
biological scientists; and information dissemination and human
resource development through trainings, workshops, seminars and
conferences.
