Restoration of judges
Ibrahim quits amid differences in body

Staff Reporter

Islamabad—The Committee for the Reinstatement of the Deposed Judges has become victim of controversies and noted lawyer Fakhruddin G Ibrahim has resigned from its membership.

When asked about the motive of resignation, he said that the reason of his resignation should be asked from the Federal Minister for Law Farooq. H Naek.

According to details the very person who formed the Committee for the restoration of judiciary, Fakhruddin G Ibrahim has expressed reservations regarding the restoration of the judiciary about which he has already informed the Law Minister alongwith his disenchantment with the severely disappointing progress of the standing committee for the reinstatement of the judges.

He alleged that the committee was getting “off-track”.

Addressing a press conference in Karachi, president of Sindh Bar Council Justice (Retd) Rasheed .A Rizvi said that the resignation of Ibrahim had raised his courage, and he condemned Murree Declaration as a joke with the nation.

Rasheed A Rizvi alleged that the coalition government was interested in sustaining the judges, who took oath under the PCO and announced that the lawyers fraternity which struggled for the supremacy of the constitution will not accept judges, who took oath under PCO.

He said that according to Murree declaration it was promised that the judges who did not take oath under the PCO will be restored to their offices, but it did not promise to restore the judges who took oath under the PCO.

Rasheed A Rizvi vowed that if the coalition government failed to reinstate the deposed judiciary then PBC would announce its future strategy in Pakistan lawyers’ conference to be held on 17 May.

“Sixteen judges of apex courts including five former chief justices of Pakistan had already in a joint statement on March 15 had asked the government that the deposed judges could be restored with a simple resolution or with an executive order,” he added.
