Shujaat: Postponement to facilitate Shahbaz

Salim Ahmed

Lahore—Pakistan Muslim League-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain on Monday said that by-elections in the country were postponed to facilitate Mian Shahbaz Sharif, as according to former, the latter is defaulter of Rs six billion.

Talking to newsmen at his Gulberg residence after a party meeting, Shujaat said the present coalition government had no interest in resolving public problems. He said it was their desire that present coalition remains intact but the people of Pakistan had seen their performance who raised tall claims with regard to resolution of public problems.

Answering a question, Shujaat ruled out any possibility of impeachment of President Pervez Musharraf, saying that no one will be able to table a resolution in this regard.

Talking about the affairs of the Bank of Punjab following sacking of its chairman and others on massive fraud charges, he said neither he himself nor any of his relative had account in the BoP. “During his party’s rule in Punjab, the bank achieved progress”, he said.

Answering another question, Shujaat said his party wants resolution of judges issue as early as possible. ‘We want that all the sitting judges should continue in their offices while the judges who have become political should not be restored’, he said. We will decide about supporting or opposing the judges restoration after seeing the resolution whose draft is under preparation in Dubai, Karachi and Islamabad, he added.
