Judiciary’s revival with allies consensus: Gilani
Announces liberal funding for medical colleges

Multan—The issue of revival of superior court judges will be taken with consensus of the coalition partners, said Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani here Monday.

Talking to journalists after inaugurating the new building of the Islamic Studies Department at the Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) the Prime Minister said Maulana Fazlur Rahman and other allies are members of the committee on independence of the judiciary and any decision would be taken with consensus and there are no differences among them on the issue.

To a question he said MQM enjoys a substantial political support in Karachi, that is why it has been included in the Sindh cabinet and the PML-N has no reservations on this coalition.

Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani said the PPP will take along all its coalition partners to steer the country out of the challenges it is facing today.

He said to maintain law and order is our first priority as without it progress is not possible.

Governor Punjab Lt Gen (R) Khalid Maqbool, Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Zafarullah and secretary higher education Punjab Ms Arifa Saboohi were also present.

Earlier, the Prime Minister laid the foundation-stone of institute of veterinary sciences and University Gillani Law College at the BZU.

Addressing a ceremony at the Bahauddin Zekria University, Prime Minister Gilani announced setting up of a Medical College and a foreign engineering college in affiliation with the university.

He also laid the foundation stone for new building of the Gilani Law college that will be completed at a cost of Rs 350 million by April 2009, besides funds for setting up the Veterinary Sciences college at a cost of Rs 480 million.

Currently 12,000 students, including 100 Ph.Ds are getting education through seven faculties of the University, that was established in 1975.

The Prime Minister said currently the country was facing serious challenges of energy shortage, poverty and inadequate health facilities. He said the new democratic government was committed to addressing all these issues on priority.

He said his government was also committed to increasing the per acre yield, provide better health and education facilities, improve the law and order and make Pakistan a self-sufficient country in all respects.

“Our coalition team is working day and night, collecting data and preparing working papers, and we will be able to resolve all these issues,” he said. He said education provided an environment that encouraged free exchange of ideas and creative interaction.

While addressing a ceremony at the auditorium of Institute of Management Sciences, BZU, the PM also announced to offer funding for Bio-technology institute, and construction of Gilani Law College that was set up by his family elders in 1971. “Promoting the cause of education runs through my blood,” said the PM while addressing the ceremony after laying the foundation stone of Institute of Veterinary Sciences, University Gillani Law College and inaugurating the recently completed building of Islamic Studies department at the university.

PM said, his elders have offered a humble contribution to promote education and added he will also offer all out support to efforts aimed at promoting education standards and facilities. —APP
