Old Ravian XI win GCU annual hockey match

Lahore—Old Ravian XI won the GCU Lahore annual festival hockey match by beating Vice Chancellor XI with a score of 3-2 in an exciting match played at the Oval ground of the GC University Lahore.

Both the teams demonstrated excellent hockey drill and presented quality play during the game. Khawaja Junaid of the Old Ravian side scored two goals while Khawaja Owais scored one goal enhancing the score tally to three.

The Vice Chancellor XI also presented excellent play with the hockey and their Qaiser Imam and Zeeshan Akram scored goals. The sensational and thrilling game ended in a note of Old Ravian success.

The chief guest of the ceremony distinguished Old Ravian and former Vice Captain Pakistan Hockey Team in the 1948 Olympics Shahzada Shahrukh while expressing his views on the occasion said that this age is entirely different from his age and the present GC University has brought about lot of changes in terms of providing excellent sports facilities to its students. He highly eulogized the GCU Lahore Sports Gymnasium where all the latest sports facilities are extended to the varsity students. He urged the students to benefit from the sports facilities and earn name for their nation.

Director Sports GCU Lahore Prof. Khadim Ali Khan said on the occasion that GCU students are performing amicably in all the discipline of sports and our squash team and athletics teams stood first and second in the HEC championship respectively.

He informed that GCU hockey team stood second in the inter-varsity hockey championship 2007-08.

Prof. Khadim further told the participants that GCU has installed new machinery like Threadmill, cycling and four station in both the male and female fitness centers of the varsity.

The chief guest of the ceremony Shahzada Shah Rukh gave shields to the players of both the teams.

Chairman Sports Board GCU Prof. Dr. Ikram ul Haq presented souvenir shield to Mansoor Feroze Khan in memory of his father Feroze Khan for his services rendered to the GCU hockey team.

Dean of Science and Technology GCU Lahore Prof. Dr. Amin ul Haq said on the occasion that it has been the tradition of the varsity that it arranges festival hockey match on annual basis and this has been the hall mark of the GCU sports that it has always tried to attain excellent results in all sports.
