Illegal parking lots affect traffic flow
Islamabad—Unauthorized parking lots and
encroachments on footpaths and along road sides are not only
affecting traffic flow but also risk lives of pedestrians by forcing
them to walk on busy roads.
Though the police and civic authorities clamp down on them
occasionally, those violating the rules are back in no time. The
situation is worst in Raja Bazar, Muree Raod, Tench Bhatta, Banni,
Sarafa Bazar, Mochi Bazar, Sadiqabad and Satellite Town.
In many business hubs of the city, shops have displayed their wares
on the footpath. Besides, large portion of footpaths and streets
have been encroached upon by vendors, forcing pedestrians to leave
footpath and walk by the sides of the road.
A shopkeeper in Mochi Bazar, Mohammad Sohail says vendors encroach
on footpaths in violation of the orders issued by the city
government. However, he added that most shop owners park their cars
in front of their shops in violation of traffic rules. Thus,
customers are deprived of space to park their vehicles.
“For the smooth movement of traffic and pedestrian, the city
government should remove encroachment of different shapes from
markets and Bazars”, Zulfiqar Khan said.Mohammad Ishaq, resident of
Raja Bazar said unauthorized parking is another problem of this
area. “The absence of proper signboards, inadequate enforcement of
the no-parking rule and unmarked parking places combine with
encroachment have led to the problem getting worse by the day”, he
added.—APP
