College of EME holds fourth convocation
PM asks varsities to focus on research for economic uplift

Rawalpindi—Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has called upon the universities to focus on research for the socio-economic development of the country. He was addressing the 4th convocation of College of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering of the National University of Science and Technology here on Monday.

The Prime Minister said government is taking a number of steps to promote Science and Technology in the country.

Mr. Gilani said the government is focusing on strengthening existing institutions involved in research and development activities to promote research environment to compete in the globalised world.

The Prime Minister said there is a need to establish and promote strong linkages between research and development institutions and industries to add value to their products. He also stressed the need for interaction between Research and Development and private sector and said this implies new businesses and new jobs for the youth.

The Prime Minister said the aim of the Universities is not merely produce job seekers but to create jobs through research, technology, management and enterprenurship.

Mr. Gilani said the NUST has emerged as a quality comprehensive Science and Technology University that produces education not only in almost all the disciplines of Engineering but also in business and administration and information technology.

The Prime Minister said the Universities must be high and research vigorously to help the nation to come up with socio-economic and psychological moves.

He congratulated the University faculty for enable the NUST in attaining a place among the top five hundred universities of the world. He also congratulated graduating students and wished them all success in their future life.

The Prime Minister gave away degrees to two hundred and twenty graduating students and medals to the position holders in the disciplines of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering .

Rector of NUST University Lt. General Muhammad Asghar said with a highly qualified faculty and well developed laboratories, EME college is now emerging as a centre of excellence. He said the college has kept pace with the developments on scientific and technological horizon.

Commandant of EME College Major General Najeeb Tariq said the College enjoys international recognition and reputation for imparting quality education in the fields of Electrical, Mechanical, Computer and Mechatronics Engineering. Besides offering bachelors degrees, this College is also offering masters and PhD degree programmes in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer System, Software and Mechatronics Engineering.
