HEC provides scholarships to 300 poor students
Islamabad—The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has
successfully completed award of scholarships to 300 outstanding but
non-affording students, through its project ‘Financial Support for
Meritorious Needy Students’.
The objective of the initiative was to provide the talented youth an
opportunity to carry on their higher education without facing any
financial burden.
Under the project, 300 scholarships have been provided to the
meritorious but needy students in the field of Life Sciences
covering the courses like Pharm-D, Bio-Technology, Bio-Medics,
Bio-Medical Engineering, Bio-Informatics and Genetics.
Other main component of the programme was to establish 12 Students
Financial Aid Offices (SFAO) at the participating universities.The
programme has successfully awarded all the provisioned scholarships
to the students as well as established SFAOs at the identified
locations. In this regard, a meeting of the National Scholarship
Management Committee was held at HEC Secretariat to award the last
135 scholarships.
Prof. Dr. Sohail H. Naqvi, Executive Director, HEC, in his address,
asked the representatives of the universities to be focused to
attract more financial assistance from Alumni of the universities,
industrialists, businessmen and other stakeholders for needy
students as basic institutional support has been developed in the
form of SFAO and other financial assessment tools are also there to
assist the deserving students.—APP
