Incentive for identifying ‘illegal’ wheat stocking announced

Vehari— Punjab Minister for food Malik Nadeem Kamran Monday announced that ten per cent wheat will be given as ‘reward’ to those who identify illegal stocks of the golden grain.

“Government would discourage hoarding and profiteering of the commodity so that common man does not face any difficulty in getting wheat or flour at fixed price”, he said. while addressing a meeting on Monday.

The minister warned that hoarders and stockists will be dealt with an iron hand. He exhorted the food officials to achieve the wheat procurement target so that the government could fulfil the needs of other provinces as well.

Provincial Secretary Food Rao Iftikhar Ahmed, DCO Muhammad Khurram Agha, MPA Sardar Khalid Salim Bhatti, MPA Ch Muhammad Hafeez, EDO Revenue Hameedullah Khan and Deputy Food Controller Ch Hafeez Ahmed attended the meeting.

The secretary food said that Vehari’s procurement target has been enhanced from 1.6 million bags to 3.2 million bags. To date,35,000 ton wheat has been purchased. DPO Khanewal Muhammad Kamran Khan has directed police officers to extend every possible cooperation to masses, with a vision to win their hearts and restore public confidence.

Police officers here at District govt complex committee room on Monday. He urged the officers to discharge their duties honestly to weed out crimes from the society.

DCO Khanewal Qazi Muhammad Ishfaq, EDOs, DOs were present in the meeting.

A tractor drive was man was attacked and severly injured by nine armed men and deprived of hundreds of kilograms wheat near wholesale wheat market in Nowsheran Virkan.

Mohammed Yasin was driving a tractor trolley RNC 1299, loaded with wheat belonging to Mohammed Asgher, when nine armed men seized the consignment and caused severe injuries to him.

The injured man was admitted to a local hospital and his family allegedly stated that police was reluctant to investigate and act as some influentials of the area were involved.

In an unfortunate incident, a poor grower suffered a loss of about Rs 40,000 when some unknown persons torched his wheat crop on 1.5 acres near village EB 121 in Arifwalalate Sunday. Mohammed Sabir,the aggrieved farmer said some 35 to 40 maunds of wheat was lost in the incident. —APP
