PPWD announces squad for National Soccer Cup

Lahore—Pakistan Public Works Department (PPWD) announced their
football team for the National Football Challenge Cup 2008 which
will decide National Departmental Champion of Pakistan on 15 May at
Peoples Sports Complex.
According to PWD Sports Officer Parvez Saleemi, former international
youth player Tariq Umer will act as coach of the team while Sajid
Hussain will lead the team and Mairaj Kashani will act as his
deputy. Other players in 25-member team are: Jamil Ahmed, Jahangir
Khan, Muhammad Mobeen, Muslim, Abdul Razzaq, Muhammad Ramzan,
Shahnawaz, Bashir Ahmed, Muhammad Jan, Muhammad Farooq, Khalil
Ahmed, Asif Ali, Shehzad Hussain, Muhammad Naveed, Ali Muhammad,
Hashmat Ullah, Muhammad Habib, Noor Hussain, Atif, Kamran, Abul
Hameed, Gul Muhammad and Jahangir Taj.
PPWD, which played in Pakistan Premiership 2005, will start their
mission in Group-D when they will take on KESC at KMC Stadium on 7
May. Their next match will be against Pakistan Steel at Peoples
Stadium on 9 May. PPWD played in the PFF league 2004, 2006 and 2007.
They were on the edge of returning back into Pakistan Premiership
2008, but they lost the pace in final stages of PFF League 2007 and
finished fifth behind PEL, Pak Steel, SSGC and PAF.“The football
team of PPWD is in domestic scene since late sixties and over the
years it worked as nursery, providing several players who are now
showing guts in A-Division of Pakistan football. The objective of
this organization are to execute the offices and residential
accommodation for federal Government employee and to overcome the
backlog of millions of square foot of office space and housing units
being presently accommodated in hired office space and privately
owned residences within budgetary provisions of Federal Government,”
said Saleemi while explaining the function of PPWD.
