Babar, Naek exchange hot words in Senate

Staff Reporter

Islamabad—PPP Senator Dr. Babar Awan on Friday created rumpus in the Upper House of the Parliament after he was not allowed to speak on a point of order.

Babar Awan, in the first session of the Senate after the change of government, sought permission from the Chair for speaking on a point of order, but Chairman refused to grant him permission for the purpose. The Senator became furious and started talking loudly.

Opposition Senator Babar Ghauri hurled remarks that it was not an appropriate way of raising the issue in the august House.

Federal Minister for Law, Justice and Cabinet Affairs Farooq H Naek asked Babar Awan to take the seat, but his direction further infuriated Babar and it resulted in exchange of hot words.

“Who are you to direct me” Babar Awan asked furiously.

Then Leader of the House Raza Rabbani, Advisor on Interior Rehman Malik and others went to his seat to cool down him, but Babar Awan refused to bow to their entreaties.

At that time Babar Awan complained against the Chair for granting permission to others but depriving him of that privilege.
