Over 45m children in country
deprived of education
Faisalabad— More than 45 million children are deprived of education
in Pakistan, where no educational facilities are available to the
underpriveleged kids in two percent urban and 21 percent of rural
areas
This was observed by Tahir Iqbal, district coordinator child rights
committee of SPARC, an NGO. Talking to APP here Friday, he said that
juveniles, laborers, disabled and needy children are denied their
legitimate right to quality education, according to the National
Education Census Report 2005.
Quoting a World Survey Report of UNESCO, he said that less than 70
percent children are completing their primary education, with a high
dropout rate, while three countries Pakistan, India and Nigeria are
receiving 27 percent share of the world aid for promotion of
education.
He pointed out that if appropriate measures are not taken by the
Ministry of Education, the 100 percent literacy target by 2015 can
not be achieved, adding that as a signatory of the world framework
for ‘Education for All’, Pakistan is bound to achieve this target at
all costs.
He said that SPARC child rights body expects the present democratic
government to ensure provision of equal educational facilities under
a comprehensive policy.—APP
