SC adjourns Fakhar Imam’s election petition

Islamabad—A three-member bench of the Friday adjourned the hearing of election petition filed by Syed Fakhar Imam who contest the elections as candidate of PPP from NA. 156 Khanewal-I.

The petitioner has challenged the decision of the Lahore High Court in a petition regarding pre-poll rigging in the recently held elections.

The court adjourned the hearing to a date in office on the request of the petitioner’s counsel.

The bench headed by Justice Faqir Muhammad Khokhar heard the case in brief.

The Chief Election Commissioner as well as Muhammad Raza Hayat Hiraj, elected MNA from NA-156, and five candidates, namely Dr. Syed Khawar Ali Shah, Riaz Shahid Khan Punian, Syed Faisal Imam, Muhammad Aqeel Yousaf Bhatti and Maulana Muhammad Ajamal Qadri and District Returning Officer Khanewal have been made respondents by the petitioner.

The petitioner has raised a number of questions in the petition especially about transfer of presiding and assistant presiding officers a few days before the election held on February 18.—APP
