Govt Kandhkot spends major amount on health, education

Larkana— The Works and Services Deprtment of District Government Kashmore at Kandhkot is carrying out work on 99 development projects in education sector at a cost of Rs 996.7563 million under the Annual Development Programme (ADP).

Executive District Officer (EDO), Works and Services, Kashmore- Kandhkot in a monthly briefing regarding the progress of ongoing projects, on Friday apprised District Nazim Kandhkot-Kashmore Sardar Saleem Jan Mazari that the allocation for the current financial year is Rs 450.678 million while 42 per cent work on these schemes has been completed.

He hoped that the target would be achieved before the end of the current financial year 2007-08.

The EDO during a briefing about the new schemes, said 56 per cent work on six schemes including construction, renovation and repairs of 208 units of elementary education schools, costing Rs 88.788 million, have been completed whereas progress on 5 other schemes of the same nature of 33 units/ schools of secondary education costing Rs 74.362 million, is near its completion.

He further stated that the work on two other schemes regarding college and technical education at a cost of Rs 7.292 million, is underway in full swing.

The EDO also briefied about the on-going schemes of education sector and stated that 80 per cent work has been completed on 3 schemes of repair and maintenance of 103 units of elementary education with a total cost of Rs 111.022 million.

He said 99 per cent work has been completed on 3 schemes of repairs and maintenance of 27 units of secondary school education costing Rs 90.394 million out of which Rs 7.0 million has been spent.

He said buildings of 14 existing primary schools are being reconstructed with a total cost of Rs 12.726 million, while under rehabilitation scheme, work is going on in 17 existing primary schools with total cost of Rs 8.352 million.

The District Nazim was also briefed about the construction of buildings of 47 shelter-less primary schools costing Rs 19.000 million, work on which is also in progress in full swing while some additional classrooms are being constructed in other 95 primary schools with a total cost of Rs 20 million.

It was further stated that rehabilitation of 27 existing middle schools is being carried out at a cost of Rs 10 million while the repair work of 8 secondary schools of the district is also being carried out costing Rs 10.174 million.

The EDO works further informed that a new girls high school is being established/ constructed at village Sardar Ghulam Sarwar Sarki with a cost of Rs 7.822 million while for up-gradation of schools from middle to secondary/ high school level, the work is being carried out on 5 schemes with a cost of Rs 17.566 million.—APP
