Transporters call for protection of vehicles

Karachi—Public transporters in Karachi have called for a foolproof strategy to protect their vehicles from being burnt besides safety of concerned drivers as well as conductors during untoward instances in the metropolis.

The transporters representing Karachi Transport Action Committee and Anjuman-e-Ettihad-e-Bus Malikan Karachi in a joint statement here on Friday also appealed to the political parties to play their role in countering such instances.

Mohammad Ashraf Banglori, Chaudhri Mazhar Hussain, Lala Sultan, Tanzeem Khan and Nazeer Banglori said as the transporters hold no political affiliation therefore, they expect that their business and source of livelihood must not be targeted due to skirmishes between different political groups.

They observed with concern that the indifference of political parties towards the loss of transporters reflects lack of consideration towards public plight. They maintained that failure or even any unnecessary delay in redressal of the transporters’ grievances including compensation for the burnt and damaged buses and coaches may compel them to withdraw their vehicles from the city roads.—APP
