SITE Town to launch operation against land mafia

Karachi—Naib Nazim, SITE Town, Syed Badshah Khan Friday said that all illegal encroachments hampering storm water drains and sewerage system would be removed without any exigency and no leniency will be shown in this regard.

He stated this while inspecting the drain cleaning and garbage lifting work in the Town on Friday. He said that sanitation staff was facing problems in cleaning of drains because of encroachments and the same would now be removed.

Badshah Khan pointed out that width of storm water and sewerage drains which was 100 feet 30 years back has now reduced to mere 10 feet.He said that Orangi nullah has reduced from 400 feet to mere 50 feet at Banaras which has severely impeded the flow in storm water drains while land mafia was out to occupy the remaining area as well.Naib Nazim observed that these drains were getting affected because of dumping of marble waste and other garbage into Lyari river and Orangi nullah. He announced that an operation will soon be carried out against land mafia at the Town level and government land along the drains will be retrieved so that unhindered flow of water and sewerage in the drains was ensured during coming monsoon.—APP
