Poverty, economic disparities root cause of crimes

Karachi—Social injustice, economic disparities and poverty are the root causes of crimes and ‘suicide bombings’.

This was maintained by the speakers at a meeting of Shura Hamdard Karachi chapter, said a statement on Friday.

It was pointed out that the existence of social injustice, economic disparities and poverty were the root causes of crimes, suicide bombings as the “frustrated, unemployed and poverty- stricken youth offered themselves for suicide bombings and in return their families got money.”

The meeting was presided over by Chief Justice, Federal Shariat Court, Justice Haziq-ul- Khairi.Speaking on the occasion, President of Hamdard Foundation Pakistan and Shura Hamdard Pakistan, Mrs. Sadia Rashid, said the problem of law and order had superseded the other important problems of the country and now it has become more onerous for the country.

She said the media can play an important role in minimising the threat of crimes by not showing and printing the footages and pictures of crime scenes.

‘It should be the first priority of the newly elected democratic governments in centre and provinces to find out a permanent solution of suicide bombings and worst law and order situation, without which no work of development and social welfare could possibly be done,” she observed.

Ex-Chairman, Pakistan Steel Mills, Haq Nawaz Akhtar, said there were foreign hands in dividing the Pakistani society and recent turmoil in our society was a result of this division.

“The remedy of suicide bombing and other social crimes is to promote social justice, to provide employment and education and alleviate poverty particularly in areas where the terrorists are coming from, because most of the poor, illiterate and unemployed youth are involved in it”, he maintained.

Former ambassador of Pakistan, Mahdi Masud, said the terrorist activities could not be legitimised in any way. These activities, according to the Chinese leader, Mao-Tze-Dung, could not be continued without the aid of a friendly population, he said adding,” It is, therefore essential to deprive the terrorists of the help of friendly population in Pakistan”.

“Islam is a religion of love, endurance and tolerance”, he said, adding, “we should teach our new generation to respect each other and to love their nation and country”.

Justice Haziq-ul-Khairi said media can play an important role in promoting the sentiments of love, peace and brotherhood among the people of Pakistan through their positive programmes instead of telecasting the programmes of hate and differences.—APP
