Agencies dividing Kashmiri Muslims: Mirwaiz

Srinagar— Stressing on the need of unity among Kashmiri Muslims, All Parties Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has said various agencies were operating to create a divide among the Muslim Kashmiris. Speaking at a Seerat conference organized by Mutahida Majlis-e-Amal at Mirwaiz Manzil in Srinagar, Mirwaiz said that for the past eight months various agencies were active adding they were creating misunderstandings among the Muslim community of Kashmir to make the division easy.

The Mirwaiz termed the presence of such agencies as the biggest challenge Kashmiris are facing presently.

He said that the brotherly feelings among the Muslims had faded as the attention had shifted from religion to material things.

“Muslims are getting involved in insignificant issues. This distracts Muslims from the very basic teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW). The main issues get sidelined as we forget that all of us are Muslims and try to create divisions on our own,” rued Mirwaiz. He said that even in the recent Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) meeting, which was a political one, it was felt that Muslims were becoming affectionless, which is against the teachings of Islam.

The Seerat conference was arranged to create hatred among the minds of youth against the social evils and seek possible solutions to the social problems like immorality and drug abuse.

Prominent Shia leader and Ittehadul Muslimeen Patron Moulvi Abbas Ansari in his speech said, “For the past 47 years, I have been working for the unity among Kashmiri Muslims. This is my priority. I never advocated Shiaism because our basic skeleton is Islam. Rest are the branches of the tree.”

About the moral degradation and drug abuse in the Kashmiri society, Ansari said, “Charity begins at home. Drug addiction is a threat to our society and is one of the serious issues. It can be eliminated only if the parents provide quality moral education to their children. This is the need of the hour,” he said.—SANA
