NEPRA determines tariff for
SHYDO power stations
Observer Report
Islamabad—National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has
determined generation tariff in the matter of petitions filed by
Sarhad Hydel Development Organization (SHYDO) for Malakand-III
Hydropower Project and Blue Star Energy (Pvt) Limited (BSEPL) for
run-of-the-river Hydel Power Plant on Machai branch canal at Tehsil
Takht Bhai, District Mardan.
All the stakeholders were invited to participate in the NEPRA
hearings and offer their comments. Comments were received from
Central Power Procurement Agency (CPPA) and other stakeholders. This
is the first time that a generation tariff for hydel plants has been
determined for an organization under the aegis of the Provincial
Government and another in the private sector. Both the plants are at
the final stage of commissioning and have already been granted
generation licences. In light of the current power crisis prevailing
in the country, the induction of Hydropower projects will greatly
assist in minimizing the power demand-supply gap and enhancing the
power generation capacity within the country with affordable
technology.
The tariffs determined for SHYDO for 81 MW Malakand-III Hydropower
Project is 4.8 ˘ / kWh (levelized) for a period of 25 years, and for
03 MW BSEPL run-of-the-river Hydel Power Plant on Machai Branch
canal at Tehsil Takht Bhai, District Mardan is 5.8 ˘ / kWh (levelized)
for a period of 25 years. The estimated annual energy productions of
the projects are 553.160 GWh (SHYDO) and 19.711 GWh (BSEPL).
