Allied parties to promote healthy democracy: Khosa

Salim Ahmed

Lahore— President of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Punjab Sardar Zulifqar Ali Khosa on Thursday expressed the resolve that allied parties in the coalition set up would promote healthy democratic and political values.

He told newsmen in the Punjab Assembly building premises after filing nomination papers of his party’s candidates for Speaker and Deputy Speaker, Zulifqar Khosa, who is father of the PML-N nominee for the prestigious slot of Punjab Chief Minister, Sardar Dost Mohammad Khosa, said that the PML-Q was in-search of an escape through what he called ‘’unjustified boycott and undemocratic steps’’. He was of the view it was not a good tradition to make Dr. Afgan’s incident as the basis for protest and boycott. “Why didn’t PML-Q boycott in its tenure, when opponent parties’ parliamentarians were dragged through back doors of the house and put in the prison vans as well as picked up even from the mosques; and when journalists and lawyers were manhandled on roads.”

PML-N leader also ruled out any contact with Q-League’s forward bloc with regards to government formation.

“Mian Nawaz Sharif, Mian Shahbaz Sharif and myself used to address election meetings of our candidates, who were fielded against the candidates of Q-League’s forward bloc,” he added.

Khosa expressed the resolve that allied parties would promote healthy democratic and political values. On this occasion, the PML-N’s candidate for speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal said, “We will run the house proceeding in an impartial manner, as it is the joint house of treasury and opposition members.”

Candidate for Deputy Speaker Rana Mashood Ahmed Khan asserted that they had been striving for rule of law in the country during last eight years.
