APHC demands probe into unidentified graves

Srinagar— In occupied Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyet Conference has demanded result oriented probe into the recent revelations of about 1000 nameless graves in villages surrounding Uri in Baramulla. According to Kashmir Media Service, the demand was made during a sit-in demonstration at Pratap Park in Srinagar, which was led by senior APHC leader Shabbir Ahmed Shah and attended by Shaikh Abdul Aziz, Fazl Haq Qureshi, Nayeem Ahmed Khan, Yasmeen Raja and Zafar Akber Butt, besides relatives of disappeared persons

Speaking on the occasion, Shabbir Ahmed Shah said, “The graves should be opened to ascertain the facts. The revelations have increased our apprehensions that the buried might be the innocent Kashmiris who have disappeared in custody of Indian troops over the past many years,” adding, “This is nothing but state-sponsored terrorism which we strongly condemn.” “We appeal the Amnesty International and other international human rights groups to identify the people buried in these graves,” Shabbir Shah said, adding, “Such revelations may be just the tip of an iceberg.”

Shabir Shah pointed out that the APHC had decided to take up the issue with the United Nations and other international forums. “We’ll show the world how India is committing atrocities on innocent Kashmiris and how its troops kill people in the dead of the night,” Shah added. The world community, he said, should take a note of such barbaric incidents where people are dragged out of their homes, killed and buried at unidentified places.

It is pertinent to mention that the Association of Parents of Disappeared Persons last month released a report revealing that it had found 940 nameless graves in 18 villages around Uri.—KMS
