Plan for timely resettlement of Mangla Dam affectees

Mirpur— AJK Minister for industries & Mangla dam affairs Chaudhry Muhammad Yousaf Tuesday said that an integrated plan has been kicked of the ensure the timely rehabilitation and resettlement of the victims of the under-construction Mangla Dam raising project.

“The state government was determined to safeguard all the due rights of the Mangla dam affectees and the process of rehabilitation and resettlement of the affected families will be executed within stipulated time-frame”, the minister declared while talking to reporters in his office chamber Tuesday.

He said that the Mangla dam affectees rendered great sacrifices for the economic progress and prosperity of the country under their great national spirit. He said that nobody could give matching response to their supreme sacrifices in the greater national interest. He said the government would leave no stone unturned to extend maximum relief and compensation for heir rehabilitation under the spirit of the already-reached agreement.

Elaborating the ongoing measures for resettlement and rehabilitation of the affectees of about Rs. 100 billion under construction Mangla Dam raising project, the minister said that the timely rehabilitation of the new and old affectees of Mangla dam was the foremost priority of the government.

He expressed his annoyance over the slow pace of construction work in New Mirpur city and four small towns by categorically stating that there was various apprehensions and reservations among the affectees due to the slow speed of construction work at the new residential resorts being established for their rehabilitation.

The minister said WAPDA has been directed for immediate gearing of development works in New Mirpur city and four small towns to ensure the timely shifting of the Mangla dam affectees before the completion of the ongoing raising of the dam.

The Minister said that the Mangla Dam Affairs and all other related departments have been directed to initiate every possible steps for the timely rehabilitation of the affected families falling displaced due to the project in line with the stipulated time-frame and according to the aspirations of the affected families. —APP
