WWF nature carnival in Karachi

Karachi—World Wide Fund for Nature in collaboration with ICI Pakistan organized a nature carnival to create awareness and importance of environment protection for the 9th year in Pakistan.

Actually, ICI Pakistan Ltd, and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) partnered for the ninth year to organize the WWF Wetlands Nature Carnival held at PAF Museum Faisal, which was attended by over ten thousand visitors, including students, teachers and parents. This year, the Carnival focused on creating awareness on the state of the Wetlands of Pakistan, and methods of conserving this diverse ecosystem.

Since 1999, ICI Pakistan and WWF have partnered to organize the annual WWF Nature Carnival in order to educate the general public about the significance of nature conservation. Each year, the event involves participation from educational institutions, students and corporate concerns offering an excellent opportunity for creating awareness on critical environmental issues, with a healthy mix of educational and entertaining activities.

Visitors to the WWF Wetlands Nature Carnival 2008 had the opportunity to participate in an exciting range of activities including a nature exhibition and competition, fun fair, puppet and magic shows, spellathons, and various games focusing on environmental themes, as well as the opportunity to learn more about the importance of environment and WWF-Pakistan’s initiatives in nature conservation. The participants also learnt more about ICI Pakistan, its products, and its various activities in the area of community development and environment preservation.

At the Prize Distribution Ceremony, Pierre Seillan, the French Consul General in Karachi was the Chief Guest who distributed shields among the winning schools. Mir Hussain Ali, Secretary Environment and Alternate Energy, Government of Sindh, Mahboob Alam Ansari, the Secretary Forest and Wildlife Department, Government of Sindh, the Director Indus for All Programme, WWF-Pakistan Dr. Ghulam Akbar and Suhail Aslam Khan, General Manager HR, Corporate Communications and Public Affairs, ICI Pakistan Limited also distributed prizes among the students and teachers of the participating schools.
