Celebrating silver jubilee of
Pak-Korean ties
Dr. Jassim Taqui
Deputy Editor (IR)
This cultural fragrance from the Korean land of “calm morning”
coincides with the climatic and political spring and the 25th
anniversary of establishing Korean- Pak relations. We congratulate
the people and government of Pakistan on this era of democracy.
These were the main features of a welcome speech by the Ambassador
of the Republic of Korea Mr. Shin Un. The address was delivered at
auditorium of National Art Gallery to inaugurate the well-attended
Korean Cultural show.
Responding to the speech Mr. Naeem Tahir, chairman PNCA
congratulated the two nations on the transformation to democracy.
However, Tahir maintained that the Republic of Korea was leading the
way for this spring of democracy in Pakistan. He also thanked Madam
Un for her special efforts in ensuring the success of this cultural
event, adding that women when fully empowered and respected, can do
wonders and become an integral part of any nation that aspires to
rise and achieve progress and development for all.
The show comprised the performance of Korean songs and dances,
calligraphy, tea ceremony, exhibition of traditional crafts and
Korean fashion show.
The show was sponsored by Korean Embassy along with Sambu
Construction and Sammi-Daewoo Co. operating in Pakistan. Of course,
PNCA gave utmost support to the cultural event by providing the
venue of National Art Gallery in addition to artistic skills . In
fact Mr. Naeem Tahir asked foreign missions to avail the auditorium
of National Art Gallery and to hold cultural events in this
beautiful building.
The atmosphere was cultural. A large number of people attended. I
could see a house full despite inclement weather. People enjoyed
Korean culture that looked so unique and different. Yet everyone was
seated until the conclusion of the last item. The interesting aspect
is that a large number of Korean diplomats, their spouses and even
children also took part in the fashion show. Ambassador Shin Un and
his spouse joined the last scene of the fashion show to conclude the
cultural event.
The elite of Islamabad and Rawalpindi attended the show. Prominent
among the envoys who attended the show were Dr. Riaz Ismat( Syria) ,
Dr. Gunter Mulack( Germany) , Mr. Markus Peter( Switzerland) , Mr.
Luo Zhao Hui( China) , Dr Eynulla Madatli( Azerbaijan) , Mr. Abdul
Elah Mohamed Hajar( Yemen), Mr. Willem Andréa( Netherlands) , Mr.
Mohamed Said Mohamed Al-Lawati(Oman) , Mr. Nguyen Quang Thuc(
Vietnam), Mr. U Tin Oo( Myanmar), Mohammad Anwar Anwarzai(
Afghanistan) and Ms Aud Marit Wiig( Norway).
