Flower, vegetable shows

Islamabad—The Minister for Environment Hamidullah Khan Afridi opened flower show at Fatima Jinnah Park here Sunday. It has been arranged by the National Horticultural Society of Pakistan.

The minister appreciated the spirit of the participants said that despite rains in the capital, the organizers and the participants have managed to put up a good show.

Various institutions and individuals came up with varieties of flowers at the show, which included entries for competition among the participants. The chief guest distributed prizes among the competitors in various categories.

Among small organisations, Allama Iqbal Open University, AIOU won the first prize, while among the bigger organisations, the first position was clinched by CMH Rawalpindi.

Flower and vegetable Show-2008 was held at Morgah Club under the auspices of Attock Refinery Limited here on Sunday. Varieties of colourful seasonal flowers were exhibited elegantly.

Shoaib Anwar Malik, Group Regional Chief Executive, Attock Group of Companies was the chief guest on the occasion. As usual this year the flower show comprised of two categories that are lawn decoration and cut flower arrangements.

Addressing the function, Shoaib Anwar Malik, Chairman Attock Oil Company has said that these kinds of events should be encouraged as they are not only helpful in saving the environment but also bring people closer to nature.
