Owais stresses for
inter-faith harmony
Peshawar—An eleven-member delegation of Aalami Majlis-e-Adyan (World
Congress for Religions) headed by former Provincial Minster Qari
Roohullah Madani called on the NWFP Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani here
at Governor House on Sunday. Members of the delegation, comprising
representatives of Hindu, Sikh and Christian communities besides
Shia Scholar Allama Fakhrul Hassan Kararvi apprised the Governor
about the aims and objectives as well as efforts of the
organization, saying that it aimed to create inter-faith harmony and
brotherhood among the followers of different religions in Pakistan.
The Congress was established four years ago and since than was
striving for inter-faith harmony by holding a number of conferences
on national, provincial and district level, participated by hundreds
of followers of different religions besides foreign delegates.
They said that the organization wished to create a society, free of
all sorts of faith discrimination, where followers of every religion
had equal opportunities to independently practice their religious
beliefs and live a safe and secure life accordingly.
Governor Owais Ghani appreciated the spirit and efforts of Aalami
Majlis-e-Adyan saying that religious harmony and co-existence was
need of the hour in the back drop of the current scenario prevailed
in the region and over the globe.
He said that inter-faith tension and conflicts were harmful for
peace, which needed to be arrested. This, he added could be possible
by creating the sense of patience, harmony and respect for other’s
religious beliefs and thoughts amongst the masses.
“Islam lays stress on securing the rights of minorities and if we
follow the teachings of Islam, our society would become an
egalitarian society free of religious discriminations and hatred”,
he added.
He said, none of the religions support violence rather teach and
propagate peace and harmony. “We can make the world cradle of peace
by promoting inter-faith harmony and cohesion”, Ghani said.
He was of the opinion that the prevalent global tension and
conflicts were not because of the faiths or religions but had been
the result of geo-political scenario, therefore religions must not
be blamed for it. He stressed the need for creating more such
organizations and forums that could strive for inter-faith harmony
and cohesion and assured all out support to World Congress for
Religions, NWFP chapter in its efforts and programs.—APP
