SHC issues notice in EOBI case

Karachi—A division bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Justice Munib Ahmed Khan and Justice Yasmeen Abbasey here issued notice to EOBI and other respondents in a petition filed by Gul Muhammad Khan, a former employee of Pakistan Steel Mills and a recipient of Disability Pension from EOBI.

The petitioner moved the court through his counsel Gohar Iqbal advocate challenging termination of pension payment to him. Today when the case came up for hearing, the counsel informed the bench that the petitioner had an order in his favour from the Federal Ombudsman and also a medical examination by medical officer of the EOBI itself held that the petitioner is still facing 68 per cent disability. His liver was removed due to a road accident and he was being paid disability pension at a rate of Rs 1444 per month from August 1999 till February 2003 when its payment was stopped suddenly.

Later the petitioner was told that payment was stopped as he has recovered and is (further) recovering.

The bench after hearing the counsel for petitioner issued notices for a date to be fixed later by the office of the court.—APP
