Citizens to get good news regarding milk prices in 24 hours

Karachi—Nazim Karachi Syed Mustafa Kamal has said that stabilisng milk prices is a hard challenge which has been accepted by City Government.

He said that milk sellers, without any intimation, unilaterally increased the milk prices from Rs. 34 to Rs.42 which was a wrong decision and City Government will continue to take action against profiteers.

“The citizens would get good news regarding milk prices in the next 24 hours”, he announced.

Addressing a meeting here, Nazim Karachi said that it was first time that a good number of profiteers were sent to jail and fined. During the last 24 hours CDGK magistrates imposed fines on 117 persons and sent 59 milk sellers to jail, he stated.

Mustafa Kamal directed the concerned officials to further expedite action against sale of milk at higher prices. He pointed out that milk is a basic necessity for everyone especially children.

He was of the view that low income people were more affected by hike in milk prices, therefore the City Government will not sit silent on it.

“We have taken up it as a challenge and will work day and night to make the milk prices stable”, he pledged.

Nazim Karachi said City Government has taken an important step in Lyari Wholesale Market where illegal bidding used to take place while surprise raids were also carried out in Landhi Wholesale Market and some of the wholesalers were detained and these steps have helped control the situation.

He directed the magistrates to carry out surprise raids in each and every Town, especially the wholesale markets to monitor the sale of milk.

Meanwhile City District Government Karachi continued its action against milk wholesalers.

During the operation an illegal spot in Lea Market area was closed down by City Government officials. The City Government has asked all retailers to obtain milk from Lea Market where Enterprise and Investment Promotion Department has taken over the control of wholesale market.—APP
