Naveed orders submission of
report on PNSC fire incident
Karachi—Federal Minister for Ports, Shipping and Privatization, Syed
Naveed Qamar on Saturday ordered to immediately submit the inquiry
report about second fire incident hitting Pakistan National Shipping
Corporation’s building here.
Fire engulfed 16-stored building of PNSC second time in August 2007
and badly damaged almost entire building and burnt to ashes the
record of many private and public sector organizations housed in
this elegant building. In the early 2007, the fire had also
destroyed four floors of the same building.
The Minister issued such orders during his first meeting with the
Chairmen and other senior officers of Karachi Port Trust (KPT) ,
Port Qasim Authority , Gwadar Port Authority and PNSC here at KPT
Head Office. The Minister was briefed about the present status and
the future plans of these four facilities.
When the Minister enquired about the findings of both the fire
incidents hitting PNSC Building, he was informed by Chairman PNSC
that the inquiry report about the first fire incident had
established the short-circuit as the cause behind this mishap.
Whereas, he said, the findings about the second fire incident were
yet to come up.
Naveed directed the PNSC management to ensure foolproof security
arrangements so that no such incident could occur in future. He was
also informed that the entire building was being repaired and
equipped with all the required safety grudges. The work will be
completed in next couple of months.—APP
