New Delhi— India and Pakistan could set aside
the Kashmir issue to be resolved by a future
generation while they focus on trade and
economic ties to improve bilateral relations,
PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari has said.
Dismissing the belief in some sections in India
that the Kashmir issue could best be sorted out
while the army is in power in Pakistan, Zardari,
whose party is set to form the new government,
said people-to-people contacts and
inter-dependence in trade could help negate the
“fear factor” in both countries, PTI reported on
Saturday.
Islamabad—The Election Commission of Pakistan
has issued formal gazette notification of the
results of general elections 2008. Addressing a
press conference here Saturday, Federal
Secretary of the Commission Kanwar Muhammad
Dilshad said Election Commission had
accomplished its responsibility in the best
possible manner and foreign observers and
diplomats termed the polls free, fair and
peaceful.
Secretary EC said announcement of schedule of
By-elections would be announced soon after
sessions of newly elected National and
Provincial Assemblies.
Lahore—Special Anti-Terrorist Court (ATC) has
granted acquittal to PML-N president and former
Chief Minister Punjab, Shahbaz Sharif in
Sabzazar encounter case after statements of all
the three appellants of the case, Saeeduddin,
Muhammad Aslam and Nazir Ahmad. However, legal
proceedings against other 11 accused persons
involved in the case will continue. After the
withdrawal of murder charges by the appellents
against PML-N President, way for Shahbaz Sharif
to contest a by-election has been cleared.
Islamabad—Pakistan Muslim League (PML) has
nominated Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi as its
parliamentary leader in the National Assembly
and Chaudhry Hamid Nasir Chattha its
parliamentary leader in the Punjab Assembly.
This was decided at the meeting of the Central
Executive Committee of Pakistan Muslim League
held here on Saturday under the chairmanship of
its President, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain.
Lahore—Five Pakistan Muslim League-Q MPAs-elect
has announced setting up a forward bloc in the
Punjab assembly and to support the policies of
the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) policies in
the province. The PML-Q MPAs-elect Mehr Sultan
Bharwana from PP-76 (Jhang), Khalid Pervaiz Virk
from PP-101 (Gujranwala), Irfan Bashir Gujjar
from PP-102 (Gujranwala), Colonel (Retd) Abbas
Chaudhry from PP-134 (Narowal) and Colonel (Retd.)
Shujaat Ahmad Khan from PP-136 (Narowal) told
newsmen at a joint press conference that they
have established the forward bloc keeping in
view the public mandate given to the PML-N and
PPPP in recently held general elections.
Peshawar—In Bajaur Agency, at least three men in
uniform were killed and 30 were seriously
injured on Saturday morning in a suicide attack.
In the meanwhile the death toll of the Swat bomb
explosion has risen to 52 amid fears the toll
might further rise as many of the 92 injured
were still stated to be in critical condition.
In the month of February alone more than one
hundred people including large number of
security personnel fell victim to the suicide
explosions through out the province.
Washington—The United States said it has not
taken sides in Pakistan’s internal political
process but wants to be able to work fully with
its government to pursue common long-term
interests in counterterrorism, and democratic
and economic development of the South Asian
ally. “We have a long-term interest and a
long-term investment in Pakistan, and we want to
be able to work fully not only with yesterday’s
government and today’s government but with
future governments, because our interests in
Pakistan are long-term,” the State Department
said Friday afternoon, while noting Pakistan’s
key importance and commonality of interests
between the two allies.
Islamabad—Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI-F) Chief
Maulana Fazlur Rehman Saturday announced to
reach an agreement in principle with Pakistan
People’s Party to form government of national
consensus in centre.
Islamabad—The ongoing talks between Pakistan
Peoples Party (PPP) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement
(MQM) for the formation of Government in Sindh
have been suspended due to inflexibility shown
by both Parties on some issues.
In order to form coalition Government in Sindh,
MQM has set two conditions including
non-dismissal of Party workers recruited in
judiciary, Sindh Public Service Commission and
other civic departments during last several
years, a PPP leader on condition of anonymity
told Online on Saturday.
